OptArt LLC
Creative technology for unforgettable experiences.

Expertise

OptArt combines artistic thinking, technical design, and hands-on implementation to create experiences that would be difficult to achieve through traditional disciplines alone. Our projects often span multiple areas of expertise, including lighting, projection, interactive technology, custom software, fabrication, robotics, media systems, and public art.

Whether developing a permanent installation, a custom visitor experience, or a temporary activation, we approach each project as a unique creative and technical challenge. The result is work that is both visually compelling and built to operate reliably in real-world environments.

Geoffrey Hicks

Geoffrey Hicks is an installation artist, creative technologist, and founder of OptArt. For nearly two decades, his work has explored the intersection of light, technology, space, and participation through public art, interactive installations, and site-specific experiences.

His projects have been commissioned by arenas, museums, municipalities, cultural institutions, and private clients throughout the United States. This work ranges from permanent architectural installations and large-scale public artworks to custom projection mapping systems, interactive environments, robotic photography experiences, and immersive media installations.

What distinguishes OptArt is the ability to move seamlessly between concept development, creative direction, software engineering, fabrication, and installation. Rather than relying on a standard set of products or solutions, each project is developed specifically for its site, audience, and goals.

This combination of artistic practice and technical expertise allows OptArt to create experiences that are both innovative and practical, blending creative vision with the reliability required for public and commercial environments.

Public Art & Installation Practice

Many of the ideas and approaches used in OptArt projects originate from Geoffrey Hicks's independent art practice. His artwork explores light, participation, perception, and the relationship between people and space through public art, interactive installations, and immersive environments.

This work has been commissioned by museums, arenas, municipalities, and cultural institutions throughout the United States, ranging from permanent architectural installations to large-scale public artworks and interactive experiences.
